How and when can I open a Trump Account?

The IRS will begin to open Trump Accounts in the spring of 2026, with contributions starting on July 4th, 2026. Parents or guardians must set up and manage the account until a child turns 18.

How much can be added to a Trump Account each year?

A total of $5,000 per child can be deposited into an account each year. Employers can contribute up to $2,500 per year to an employee's account tax-free, which will count toward the $5,000 limit. If your baby receives the extra $1000, that does not count towards the $5000. Parents, grandparents, friends, employers and others can contribute to there accounts.

Can the funds be invested?

Yes, there will be S&P index funds, ETFs and other mutual funds.

Can the funds be withdrawn before the individual turns 18?

No, but there are a few exceptions.

Once they hit 18 it is rolled over to an IRA.

I read that the Dell Family donated $6 billion for Trump Accounts, can we receive part of that?

Yes they are giving $250 to kids that qualify. Other private donations will be announced as the Trump Account program grows.

In the summer of 2003 I was following the Medical Prescription Drug Bill and learned about the new Health Saving Accounts/HSA program that was in the legislation. That lead to me to HSA Trustee Services and HSA Clearing and a pioneer in the new HSA industry in January 2004.

Later we were worked with congress on HSA improvements.

Today there are over $159 Billion in HSA deposits, I watched that grow from Zero 21 years ago.

I have held my Stockbrokers licenses twice in my life and have watched many people invest over the years. I believe that starting a kid out early can make a Hugh difference in their future. Investing and the markets are not taught in school.

I think the Trump Accounts can really help kids learn about investing and making their money work.
